Success Rates
Wondering what to expect from treatment with donor sperm?
You’re not alone. Success rates can provide valuable insight as you begin planning your path to parenthood.

Building Families, Together
At London Sperm Bank, we’re proud to play a part in thousands of family-building journeys. Since opening our doors, we’ve helped welcome over 3,000 babies into the world through the generosity of our altruistic donors, our rigorous screening processes, and our collaboration with leading UK fertility clinics.
Choosing donor sperm is a deeply personal decision, and we know that many prospective parents want to understand the likelihood of success when starting treatment. While outcomes can never be guaranteed, our data shows reassuring results, particularly when compared to national averages.

How We Compare
The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) tracks and publishes success rates for all licensed UK fertility clinics. While individual clinic results can vary, London Sperm Bank’s outcomes compare favourably to reported national averages.
You can learn more about national statistics and find licensed clinics near you by visiting the HFEA website.
What Affects Success Rates?

Age
Age plays a central role in fertility. As women age, egg quality and ovarian reserve naturally decline, particularly after the age of 35. This affects not only fertilisation and implantation but also the likelihood of a healthy pregnancy. Younger individuals typically see higher success rates, especially with treatments like IUI.

Type of Treatment
Each treatment pathway carries its own chances of success. IVF and ICSI often result in higher live birth rates than IUI, particularly for older patients or those with known fertility issues. Frozen Embryo Transfers (FET) can also be highly successful, depending on embryo quality and uterine receptivity.

Endometrial & Ovarian Health
The health of the uterus and ovaries is essential for treatment success. A thick, receptive endometrial lining is needed for embryo implantation, while good ovarian function supports better response to stimulation. Conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids, or polycystic ovaries can reduce success rates and may require specialised treatment protocols.

Lifestyle & Wellbeing
Fertility is closely tied to overall health. Factors such as body weight, smoking, alcohol intake, stress, and sleep can impact hormone levels, ovulation, and implantation. Prioritising your physical and mental wellbeing during treatment can improve outcomes and help you feel more in control of the process.

Clinic & Laboratory Standards
The quality of your fertility clinic and its laboratory practices has a direct impact on success. Precision in sperm thawing, insemination, fertilisation, and embryo culture all matter. We only supply sperm to HFEA-licensed clinics that follow strict safety protocols and uphold the highest scientific standards—ensuring patients receive excellent care from start to finish.
