Common questions regarding sperm donation payment

Will I get paid for my sperm donation?

From the 1st April 2012 centres will be permitted to compensate donors a fixed sum of up to £35 per clinic visit to cover all financial losses incurred in connection with the donation. This is in accordance with HFEA guidelines

What about if my expenses exceed £35?

In accordance to the HFEA guidance, from the 1st April 2012 centres will be permitted to reimburse reasonable out of pocket expenses exceeding £35 (i.e. travel but excluding loss of earnings). Receipts must be provided for any out of pockets expenses exceeding £35.

What expenses are covered?

We pay reasonable travel expenses, including train, bus, tube, parking, petrol and congestion charges. Expensive means of transport cannot be claimed.

We also reimburse loss of earnings which will be reflected in the £35 per clinic visit claimed.

How and when will I receive this money?

Your expenses are paid in two parts, half paid during your visits to the clinic (at regular intervals to suit you) and the remainder of your expenses are paid once your samples are out of quarantine and cleared, which is generally about a year after your acceptance as a donor.
